NCPA Pharmacy Ownership Workshop student scholarships

The NCPA Foundation and Pharmacists Mutual provide a limited number of student scholarships for the Pharmacy Ownership Workshop, sponsored by McKesson and in part by Live Oak Bank and Pharmacists Mutual Companies. This is an intensive two-day event for those considering pharmacy ownership or current owners looking to polish their management skills. It's a soup-to-nuts crash course whether you're starting from the ground up, purchasing an existing store, or expanding to become a multi-store owner. If you are a student interested in attending the June 25-26, 2022 virtual Pharmacy Ownership Workshop, apply now for scholarship consideration. Applications for this scholarship will close June 6. Contact the NCPA Foundation at ncpaf@ncpa.org or call 703-838-2653.

April means it's time to dispose of those unwanted prescription drugs

Earth Day is April 22 and National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is April 30. Consider partnering with a local pharmacy or police department in your area to host a drug disposal day. Drug disposal days aim to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, which can help prevent medication misuse and protect the environment. This is a great opportunity to help educate the public and students about the importance of disposing of prescription drugs properly. You can also visit Dispose My Meds to find a pharmacy near you to dispose of unwanted drugs year-round.

National Preceptor of the Year Nominations are Open!

Do you know a pharmacist who has made a significant contribution to the education of pharmacy students as a preceptor in a community practice setting? Nominate an owner, manager, or staff pharmacist of an independent pharmacy who has demonstrated high standards of professionalism and a commitment to students as a professional mentor and teacher. Nominations are due June 30. Visit NCPA Foundation Awards for information. Contact the NCPA Foundation at ncpaf@ncpa.org or call 703-838-2653 with any questions.

Upcoming PCCA Student Boot Camps

Do you have an interest in compounding? PCCA is hosting boot camps in the summer of 2022 in Houston!

PCCA Institute's two-day, on-site Boot Camp introduces students to unique dosage forms, basic compounding techniques, regulatory updates, and quality and safety aspects used by contemporary compounding pharmacists. Students are enlightened to the reality and feasibility of opening their own compounding pharmacy and inspired to think of compounding as a viable, rewarding, and fulfilling career pathway.

For more information on the introductory Boot Camp, click here.

Upcoming PCCA Fundamentals of Compounding Online Course

Looking for ways to grow your compounding skills? The Fundamentals of Compounding Online Course introduces students to the various dosage forms used in pharmaceutical compounding. Learn more about the interrelationships between the physical and chemical aspects of compounding, as well as the regulatory guidelines governing this practice. Students will learn to determine which dosage forms are appropriate dependent on the needs of the patient while virtually interacting with other enthusiastic students as they attempt to solve "real world" case studies. This course will touch upon compounding as a business opportunity while learning how this specialty is an integral part of a pharmaceutical care practice.

The 10-week online course begins May 16. Click here for more information, the syllabus, and to register. The Advanced Compounding Lab option is available for students that have completed PCCA's Introductory Compounding Boot Camp.

For any questions on PCCA Student Courses, feel free to email Dr. Bindhu Batra.

Upcoming PCCA Veterinary Compounding online course

Are you a pharmacy student that loves helping animals? We've got the perfect course for you. PCCA's Veterinary Compounding Course has online modules covering:

  • The anatomy, physiology, disease states, and drug therapy for various species including canine, feline, equine, and exotics

  • Resources frequently used for veterinary drug information

  • Comprehensive veterinary pharmacotherapy and applications to compounding for veterinary patients

  • Legal and ethical requirements of compounding for animals

The 10-week online course begins May 16. Click here for more information, the syllabus, and to register. The Veterinary Compounding Lab option is available for students that have completed PCCA's Introductory Compounding Boot Camp.

Chapter Presentation Opportunities

PCCA school visits

Interested in hearing more about the wonderful world of compounding? PCCA offers the unique opportunity to have a representative speak to your NCPA Student Chapter to help educate students on compounding and promote further student training. Help open students' eyes to how pharmacists can help meet patient needs through this unique area in pharmacy.

If this is something of interest to your chapter, please email Dr. Bindhu Batra for more details and she would be happy to coordinate a virtual visit.

Pharmacists Mutual free presentation opportunity

If you're needing some fresh content for your chapter meetings, school events, or just want more information on the nitty-gritty of pharmacy practice and management, Pharmacists Mutual offers in-person campus presentations or virtual presentations on medication claims, risk management techniques, and professional liability.
