It's Time to Talk Holiday Cards

Traditionally, you will see boxed cards start to sell earlier in the holiday season than single cards as people who purchase a boxed card assortment tend to plan ahead. Conversely, boxed cards will slow in sales later in the season; single cards will sell right up until closing time the night before the actual holiday. How's your inventory? This One-Pager Tip from Gabe reviews the secrets to profitably inventorying and selling boxed and single holiday cards. Read it today and get your holiday cards out on the shelf if they aren't already...Christmas will be here before you know it!

Do This One Task Today to Get Ready for the Holidays

Set the employee schedule for November, December, and January. Keep in mind that the day after Thanksgiving is the last Friday of the month and there is a good chance the pharmacy will be busy. Consider bringing in extra staff to help with drop-offs and pick-ups. Christmas and New Year's Day are on a Monday. Many will be wishing for the Saturday before and/or the Tuesday after off. Now is a good time to review your call-in sick policy.

Get Ready for the Great American Smokeout

The Great American Smokeout is Thursday, Nov. 16 — a great reason to promote your pharmacy's selection of smoking session products and show how committed to healthy living your pharmacy is. Create a counter display of nicotine gum and add a sign; don't forget the sign for any behind-the-counter products. Offer written material and tips that may help individuals quit, along with a list of local support groups; place this information on your website and social media accounts this weekend. Consider offering a small reward for anyone who quits — this could be a one-time discount on OTC items after the first month of quitting, or a gift certificate from your store.

You can access information, statistics, and resources about the Great American Smokeout from the American Cancer Society and pharmacist-specific resources from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Small Business Saturday is Nov. 25 — Free Images from NCPA

Small Business Saturday was founded seven years ago to help small businesses get more exposure during one of the biggest shopping weekends of the year — Thanksgiving weekend. NCPA has created free social media images (member login required) to help small business community pharmacies get the most out of Small Business Saturday Nov. 25 and thank their customers for shopping small. Plus, you can create custom downloadable materials for your pharmacy via American Express' website.

Home Health Care and Community Pharmacy: Perception vs. Reality

Some pharmacies have the perception that they need a full 24 feet of wall space to start a home health care department. That's not the case. Use as much space as you have available to carry those items that will be of most use to your customer base. Make it obvious that even though there are products you don't have in the store, you can get them quickly, often the next day. Read more...
