News, products, marketing and merchandising tips for the
front end of community pharmacies

* TIPS from NCPA's Front-End Guru, Gabe Trahan *

Halloween Safety Begins in Your Own Pharmacy

Take time to review your policies on allowing people with masks to enter your store, and add a sign to your entrance door ("Happy Halloween! Please remove your mask before entering our store."). Consider posting a notice that large bags must be left at the register. Check exterior lighting by all doors and parking areas. Consider turning exterior lights on before dusk. At closing, leave the store as a team.

Prepare Now for November's American Diabetes Month

November is bursting with sales opportunities for Diabetes Month, and the time to prepare is now:

  • Identify and sign all sugar-free items in your store; look to add to your offerings by bringing in sugar-free chocolates and/or snacks.

  • Place a sample of a shoe for diabetics in your foot care section and display diabetic socks as well.

  • Feature a multivitamin tailored for diabetic needs at all pick-up counters. Don't forget the signs!

  • Consider running the following promotions: Receive two free pairs of diabetic socks with the purchase of a pair of diabetic shoes. If you do not carry shoes, offer one pair of diabetic socks with the purchase of a multivitamin. Or, receive a free tube of hydrating diabetic cream with the purchase of a pair of socks and a multivitamin.

  • You could put together a trick-or-treat bag of goodies for diabetic patients and hand them out Halloween weekend – anything sugar-free would be appreciated, as would samples of vitamins and/or skin creams.
