News, products, marketing and merchandising tips for the
front end of community pharmacies

* TIPS From NCPA's Front-End Guru, Gabe Trahan *

Oh the Weather Outside Is Frightful...

When cold weather or snow strikes, will you and your staff be prepared? Download the new Cold Weather Checklist to ensure your pharmacy and delivery vehicles are well-stocked for cold snaps, blizzards, nor'easters, and more.

Flu's in the News

This year's bad flu season has been leading headlines lately, and now especially is a good time to remind patients you are still offering flu shots. Here are four tips:

  • Every employee should remind customers your pharmacy offers flu shots. Conversely, every flu shot patient should be told how easy it is to transfer prescriptions to your store. Use patient conversations, exterior and interior signage, website, social media, and IVR to spread the message.

  • Flu season is also a great time to remind people about your delivery services. When delivering Tamiflu, see if they need any OTCs (lozenges, cough syrup, Pedialyte, etc.).

  • If you are giving immunizations to younger kids, have superhero, Barbie or other children's Band-Aids on hand to take the sting out — particularly brands you carry in your front end.

  • You should have at least two end-caps up right now: one offering flu prevention items (hand sanitizer, wipes, etc.) and one offering relief products (facial tissues, thermometers, humidifiers, etc.).

Spring Break Essentials

Spring break is almost here, and the time to prepare is now. Check inventory and order self-tanning and sun protection items (order a variety of SPFs and types such as waterproof, baby, etc.). Spruce up your sandal selection; Spenco, Aetrex and Dr. Comfort offer great selections. Don't wait — travelers will be hitting the road soon.
