Easter Bunny

Brain Booster from the Easter Bunny

Better now than never! Remembering how holiday sales were from one year to another without writing a few things down is pretty much a crapshoot. Knowing how many medium metallic pink chocolate bunnies you sold 11 months ago can be tricky. Here is an Easter Sales worksheet for you; think of it as a brain booster.

Baskets for Easter Candy

Most people are terrible jugglers. For that reason, you should have clean shopping hand baskets in at least two places in your store; one to the left of the first end-cap that customers see while entering your store and the other stack near the pharmacy area. If you have enough for three stacks, add one stack near an end-cap located in the middle of the store. Also, relocate some baskets near your Easter candy. Here is where you do not want your hand baskets: on or near the checkout counter; that is where customers leave them when they are done shopping. The other place not to put baskets is alongside the entrance door. Very few people, if any, look backwards when they enter a store.

Greeting Card Goals

Mother's Day is May 8th, leaving you only three weekends before the holiday. Today, if you have room, put out some of your Mother's Day cards. Who knows, you may sell Mother's Day cards to those shopping for Easter. No matter what set a goal to have all your Mother's Day cards out by the end of Wednesday, April 20th. Set goals to have cards out early for graduation and have plenty of money cardholders. Father's Day, which is June 19th, will sneak up on you, and keep in mind that early spring and summer is a peak for sales of wedding and anniversary cards. Get your calendar and circle your goal dates. To stay abreast of how the greeting card industry is doing, read more here.

Appeal to New Customers

At last weekend's Ownership Workshop, I met a number of potential store owners and a few seasoned store owners. During the marketing session, we talked about the fact that most new customers come from other people's stores! We also reviewed that one of the three ways to attract new customers is "curb side appeal." To grow, everyone needs new customers. Do me a huge favor and make sure that your sign is well lit, clean, and has no obstructions in front of it. Make sure your delivery vehicle is always parked in a high-profile spot where it can be easily seen. Keep the entrance sparkling clean. Do some painting if you need to! The exterior of your store is where the first impression is made so make yours a compelling one. P.S. Good news, on June 25th and 26th, the Ownership Workshop is coming to your town!!! Display Your Spring and Summer Must-Haves

Before we get into the month of May, contact your wholesaler and ask for a list of products available in a floor display. Keep a special eye out for displays of sun care, skin care, insect repellents, allergy relief, and lip balm. Be aware that products in a display almost never come with individual item retail price stickers! You will need to price the product! It's a myth to think people don't mind asking the price for items not marked with their retails. One more tip, clean and fill up your sunglasses displays.
