News, products, marketing and merchandising tips for the
front end of community pharmacies

* TIPS from NCPA's Front-End Guru, Gabe Trahan *

You Should Still Be Marketing Flu Shots

A lot of patients are just now starting to think about their annual flu shot, and the CDC recommends individuals get a flu shot before the end of October so they are immunized before flu season starts. Are you still marketing your immunization services? Remind customers about what you offer on your social media accounts, website, IVR, and via in-store and exterior signage.

Boosting Your Vitamin and Supplement Sales

Every fall and winter there is an increase of the number of people turning to vitamins and supplements to get them though the busy holiday season and the change in weather. Boost your inventory and create signs focusing on your recommendations for the following: multivitamin with iron; multivitamin without iron; omega-3; vitamin D; vitamin C, sugar-free C, and time-release C; B complex; vitamin B12; Echinacea; and zinc lozenges. During this time of year, people are looking for support in dealing with low energy, stress, and the threat of catching a cold. Place your vitamin and supplement inventory order today.

Make sugar-free and/or gluten-free vitamins and supplements easy to buy. Have shopping baskets, handheld magnifying glasses, and plenty of light in and near your vitamin sections.

Prepare Now for November's American Diabetes Month

November may be three weeks away, but it is bursting with sales opportunities, and the time to prepare is now. First: identify and sign all sugar-free items in your store; look to add to your offerings by bringing in sugar-free chocolates and/or snacks. Place a sample of a shoe for diabetics in your foot care section and display socks for diabetics as well. Feature a multivitamin tailored for diabetic needs at all pick-up counters. Don't forget the signs!

Consider running the following promotions: Receive two free pairs of diabetic socks with the purchase of a pair of diabetic shoes. If you do not carry shoes, offer one pair of diabetic socks with the purchase of a multivitamin. Or, receive a free tube of hydrating cream for diabetics with the purchase of a pair of socks and a multivitamin. You could also put together a trick-or-treat bag of goodies for diabetics and hand them out Halloween weekend—sugar-free anything would be appreciated, as would samples of vitamins and/or skin creams.
