News, products, marketing and merchandising tips for the
front end of community pharmacies

* TIPS From NCPA's Front-End Guru, Gabe Trahan *

Post-Valentine's Day To-Dos

  • Track your Valentine's Day sales with my sales worksheet. Be sure to note what your competitors did for Valentine's Day sales.

  • Only keep clearance Valentine's Day candy out for about another week, then get rid of it or toss it. Start getting Easter candy, cards and gifts out now. Stock up on long-time favorites: jellybeans, yellow and pink Peeps, Cadbury Eggs, Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs, etc. (Tip: Jelly Belly is the one jellybean candy that sells all year long with no need to discount after Easter.)

  • The next big gift-giving event is Mother's Day, so it's time to make room for new items. Get rid of slow-moving inventory by pulling product off the shelf for future donations.

Download This Checklist for Store Displays

Are you following these 10 guidelines when your order and set up a new display in your store? My new checklist will ensure you are maximizing your sales opportunities with a display while at the same time making inventory much easier.

The Magic of Counter and Floor Displays

Let's say you purchase three each of four different sunscreens and place them on a shelf side by side, three deep. Display them in either a seasonal or a skin care department and you will most likely have six left at the end of the summer season. But if you use a floor display with the same product, holding 48 pieces at the same retails and placed within 15 feet of the pharmacy counter, at the end of the season you will have two pieces left. Why? It's display magic. Read more in my new tip.
