News, products, marketing and merchandising tips for the
front end of community pharmacies

* TIPS From NCPA's Front-End Guru, Gabe Trahan *

Love Your Valentine's Day Sales With These Last-Minute Reminders

  • Tidying Valentine's Day cards daily is a must. Assign a staffer to check the greeting card racks & gift section twice a day through Feb. 14.

  • I hope you're taking good notes about your Valentine's Day sales hits & misses. If you haven't started yet, there's no time like the present. My sales worksheet can help: bit.ly/valentinesworksheet.

  • Keep collecting your competition's sales flyers! They will give you a peek into what to expect for Valentine's Day sales next year.

  • Essential oils could be the new box of chocolates. Set up a combination gift of assorted oils and a diffuser to sell for under $50 — a great price point.

  • A pink, white, or red bow added to fragrances, candles, Warmies, or even lift chairs can make any item a Valentine's Day gift.

  • Keep the Valentine's Day theme going right up to and including Feb. 15. Make sure there are no Christmas candy leftovers to compete with Valentine's candy. Remember, discount Valentine's Day products only after the holiday.

  • Hold off displaying any St. Patrick's Day and Easter merchandise until after Feb. 15.

A Little Paint Can Do You Some Good

You do not have to own a combination store to enjoy the benefits of new and separate look. You can add character and interest by painting a wall or several walls an accent color. Consider changing the colors in the waiting area, consulting room, DME wall, nutrition section, leg health wall, diabetic support center, or the card and gift area. Read my full tip here.

Healthy Sales Ideas for February

Use this theme as an opportunity to market your heart health products to customers. Create an end-cap of heart-healthy products, such as omegas, fish oil, coenzymes, red yeast rice, and other vitamins. Place a red heart on the shelf next to any heart-healthy item in your store (CoQ10, aspirin, etc.). Create signs that read, "Look for the red heart and give the gift of health!" and place them throughout your store this month.
